A Heartfelt Thank You to LS Power Grid New York

The Capital District Women’s Employment & Resource Center (WERC) extends their gratitude to LS Power Grid New York for their generous support of our programs. Their most recent contribution will provide funding for our student training programs, which help displaced homemakers achieve economic independence and success. Since 1988, WERC has provided quality workforce development services to more than 10,000 women from the New York State Capital Region who have lost their source of income due to the death, divorce, separation, disability, or dislocation of a spouse or who are single mothers.

WERC welcomes this partnership, where we can make our graduates aware of the career opportunities at LS Power Grid. Women in Science/Technology/Engineering/Math (STEM) are in high demand and command excellent salaries. “It is our hope to reach into the community and make people aware of the tremendous career opportunities in this field,” stated Katherine Robinson, Associate Supervisor, System Operations.

LS Power Grid New York is a utility that focuses on high voltage transmission services. They construct, own, and operate transmission facilities to help deliver energy to homes and businesses across New York state. Many existing electric transmission facilities in the state are aging and contribute to bottlenecks within the power grid. LS Power Grid New York is replacing the aging equipment and building new infrastructure to improve the reliable transmission of electricity from sources of electricity upstate, where clean energy is abundant, to downstate, where the demand is higher. Upgrading these transmission paths helps remove the bottlenecks and increases grid reliability.

LS Power Grid New York is an affiliate of LS Power, which has been in business since 1990. Their affiliate projects are located the country, and they employ close to 400 people. LS Power is an industry leader in the development, construction, and operation of transmission projects.
