The American Council On Education is the major coordinating body for all the nation’s higher education institutions, and seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues – as well as to influence public policy through advocacy, research, and program initiatives.

The Association For Career And Technical Education is the largest national education association dedicated to the advancement of education that prepares youth and adults for careers.

Formerly the “Welfare To Work Partnership,” this agency helps business identify and capitalize on hiring, retention and career development strategies outside of the corporate mainstream in an ever-changing workforce landscape.  They are a demand-side workforce intermediary whose primary focus is to help businesses fill critical workforce gaps by employing the economically disabled.

An employer-led venture of the United States Department of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy, that promotes practices to enhance employment opportunities for candidates with disabilities.  It promotes two primary personnel policies: diversity policies that includes people with disabilities and hiring practices that target candidates with disabilities.

Jobs For The Future believes that all young people should have a quality high school and postsecondary education, and that all adults should have the skills needed to hold jobs that pay enough to support a family.  As a non-profit research, consulting, and advocacy organization, they work to strengthen our society  by creating educational and economic opportunity for those who need it most.

The National Academy Foundation sustains a national network of career academies to support the development of America’s youth toward personal and professional success in high school, in higher education, and throughout their careers.  They represent business/school partnerships that prepare young people for future careers through a combination of school-based curricula and work-based experiences.

The National Alliance Of Business, a coalition of business organizations, manages more than 800 businesses/ education partnerships to support standards-based education reform.  Its goal is to increase student achievement and improve the competitiveness of the workforce through initiatives focused on school-to-career, teacher quality, and math and science instruction.

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) is the leading source of information for career services practitioners on college campuses who advise students and alumni in career development and the employment process, and for human resource professionals who recruit and hire college graduates.  NACE represents the interest of more than 1800 college career services offices at four-year, two-year, technical and graduate schools and more than 1900 HR/Staffing functions in business, industry, non-profit organizations and government.

The National Association Of Partners In Education is the only national membership organization devoted solely to providing leadership in the field of education partnership development.  They work to increase the number, quality, and scope of effective partnerships; increase the resources to support effective partnerships; increase the awareness about the importance of partnerships for promoting youth success; and promote the importance of effective partnerships to policymakers.

The Workforce Development Program provides strategic assistance to local communities, states, and federal policymakers interested in building effective workforce and youth development systems.  They assess and interpret workforce trends, develop and analyze workforce training policies, provide technical assistance to governments implementing workforce development policies and programs, and evaluate promising training practices.  The Program works with a wide range of state and local government agencies that have workforce and economic development responsibilities.  They also work with Workforce Investment Boards, industry associations, employers, educators, labor organizations, and community-based organizations.  At the federal level, they advise officials in both the legislative and executive branches of government.

The National Council For Workforce Education is a private, nonprofit professional organization committed to promoting excellence and growth in workforce education at the post-secondary level.  An affiliate council of the American Association of Community Colleges, it provides a national forum for administrators and faculty in occupational, vocational, technical and career education as well as representatives of business, labor, military and government, to affect and direct the future role of two-year and other post-secondary  institutions in work-related education.

The National Foundation For The Improvement Of Education inspires public education employees to ensure that all students succeed.  They believe that public education excellence is vital for our democracy and should be attainable for all; education employees determine the quality of public education; students should actively pursue their education; education employees should embrace diversity and act accordingly; effective education employees should continually learn, apply their knowledge, share their expertise, and lead their profession; and education employees should partner with their peers, researchers, policymakers, and communities to make public schools great for every child.

The mission of the Schenectady Business And Education Partnership is to lead a comprehensive school to careers system, incorporating the full range of  business, education and community partners in order to address the educational and workforce opportunities for all students and youth in Schenectady County

ED was created in 1980 by combining offices of several federal agencies.  Its original directive remains its mission today – to ensure equal access to education and to promote educational excellence throughout the nation.

SkillsUSA is a national organization serving more than 279,771 high school and college students and professional members enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled and service occupations.  It provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development.  It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes, and communication skills.  It emphasizes total quality at work, high ethical standards, superior work skills, life-long education, and pride in the dignity of work.
